BSB on the Big Brands Circuit

After all the fun of Superleague it was back to two wheels again last weekend for the British Superbike round out on the GP loop. This is always the event that draws one of the biggest crowds and this year was no exception. In fact on Saturday it was pretty packed too although not enough for the Paddock Hill grandstand shot.

We elected to spend some time out on the GP circuit for Saturdays race. It seemed like a great idea until the heavens opened midway through the Superbike race. Stuck on the outside of the circuit with no waterproofs wasn't that much fun! We did get some nice shots out of it mind, plus the kit survived so that was a bonusTongue out. The local lads that we were covering had a mixed day. Tommy Hill notably looking a bit out of sorts.

The rain also meant the Harley race got delayed until the end of the day. We wanted to cover this one as Alex Gault's bike was freshly stickered up with BLZEEBUB logos Cool. Alex had a 'mare on Friday going from second fastest to the back of the grid with a broken clutch in quali. At one point it looked like he may not race at all, but thankfully he lined up at the back, put in a storming run to finish 7th in a shortened 6 lapper.

Sunday started with a pit walkabout which was very popular with the fans. There were a few other notable guests knocking about. Leon Camier, Leon Haslam and the Prodigy's Keith Flint were there if you looked hard enough. My mission of the day was to find a less happy photo of Tommy Hill as that looked like being the local story angle. That one wasn't too tricky. What a difference a few months make.

On to the racing and my reverse crash magnetism was at work yet again. There was a big incident for Alistair Seeley at Surtees which Andrew Pitt ended up in. I had been standing in the prime place for that about 30 seconds before it kicked off. Pitt broke his collarbone as a result. With hindsight and reviewing the TV coverage, it's probably a good thing I missed it.

Tommy Hill had another mediocre race, followed by his brother Jimmy who's Triumph broke down in the SSK600s whilst looking like getting another podium on the home track.

Alex Gault was then out again on the Harley. The young lad made a stunning start from the back again, and was up to fifth before high siding spectacularly out of Graham Hill Bend. A crap end to a pretty bad weekend - your luck is gonna change soon Alex!

The day ended with a call down to the pit lane. There was an unscheduled finale to the day as Paul Denning and Tommy Hill got aboard the Suzuki MotoGP bikes to put in some hot laps. As Denning came back in we patiently waited to get some shot of Tommy with the GP bike. We waited and waited - the Suzuki crew had filled up the tank, he was obviously having some fun out there and certainly not hanging about. It was nice to a big smile back on his face when he finally returned to the garage.

We've stuck a few shots from the weekend up in the BSB Brands GP Image Gallery. The BLZBabes gallery has also had a big update, including some more from Superleague - one of the hottest pit lanes ever.
